PRESS RELEASE – VODACOM LIVE! MUSIC AWARDS IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE
WEEKEND POST AND ALGOA FM - 2008
PE PRELIMS THIS WEEKEND. ARTISTS
NEED FANS SUPPORT!
14 April 2008
Following the completion of the East
London Prelims at The Deck in Gonubie last weekend, the focus of
this year’s Vodacom Live! Music Awards now turns to Port Elizabeth
with three Prelims scheduled at The Lighthouses at The Boardwalk.
Hopefuls begin battling it out on stage on Friday for a share of the
R40 000 cash prizes on offer in the Eastern Cape’s richest and most
prestigious Battle of the Bands contest.
Saturday sees another ten bands and solo artists in action, as does
Wednesday evening (23rd)
All entrants present a set of three songs of which at least one song
has to be an original work and with audience reaction counting on
the judges scoresheets, it’s vital that fans turn out to support
their particular favourites
This year has seen the largest number of entries in the six-year
history of the event and that is likely to also make it the toughest
ever competition.
“Previously the event was focussed pretty much only around the East
London area,” said Daron Mann of event organisers Kei Apple, “By
growing to include the rest of the province this year the bar has
been lifted somewhat. Already there’s been some impressive
performances and I look forward to hearing many more”
In addition to a cash prize of R20 000, this year’s winning band
will also win studio time in the Sony BMG recording studios in
Johannesburg
Additional category prizes of R5 000 cash will also be awarded to
Best Solo, Best Original Song and the Vodacom Voteline winners - the
latter award being voted for by the audience via SMS on Finals Night
Once all the Prelims have been completed the judges will have the
difficult task of whittling the entrants down to a total of just 4
solo artists and 10 bands who will go through to the Finals Evening
at Old Selbornians in East London on May 10

PRELIMS NEXT WEEKEND - EAST LONDON ENTRANTS NEED FANS SUPPORT AT THE
DECK !

In a
fantastic demonstration of the healthy state that original live
music in the Eastern Cape finds itself, a total of 35 bands and 10
solo artists confirmed their entry in this year’s Vodacom Live!
Music Awards in association with the Weekend Post and Algoa FM
The
logistics of arranging Prelim dates now occupy the organisers of the
Eastern Cape’s premier and most lucrative Battle of the Bands
competition, but already it’s been decided that The Deck in Gonubie
will play host to the East London Prelims this coming weekend,
Friday the 11th and Saturday the 12th.
“Action
both nights will start at 20h00,” said Daron Mann from Kei Apple.
“With increased prizemoney on offer plus the winning band scoring a
week in the Sony/BMG recording studios in Jo’burg, competition will
be very tough. Crowd support will be an important component for any
artist hoping to excel”.
Details
of the Port Elizabeth Prelims, scheduled for the weekend of April 18
and 19 will be made known via Algoa FM and next week’s issue of the
